OVER Press-II is a classic instance of combination of pick-up suction roll and press roll, which generates two nips with a cluster of three rolls.
The second nip is generally formed by a third felted press located on the bottom part.
This press section has the advantage of a double-nip press against a smooth press roll. Nip loads go from 70 kN/m at the suction pick-up/press roll, up to 100 kN/m on the second nip, while the third nip is loaded up to 150 kN/m. In this layout a shoe press can be installed in the third position in order to increase the paper dryness before the dryer section.
This configuration is one of the most successful press designs, ensuring a great water removal capacity and an optimum quality of sheet for communication grades, such as newsprint, writing & printing papers, and lightweight packaging grades. In Over we have built many of such units, in the range from 3 to 8 meters of width and at speeds up to 1,000 mpm.
For the decorative paper grades, where a high ash content in the paper is required, this two-nips press must have a special design.
